William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a two hour play. The play is about a pair of “star-crossed lovers”. There is a feud between the Capulets and Montagues. The play also ends in a great tragedy. Mercutio dies early in the play because it gave Romeo a reason to kill Tybalt and it establishes the tragedy of the play. Romeo tried to love the Capulets until he witnessed Mercutio getting slain by the hands of Tybalt. For example, Romeo “ never injured thee” and Tybalt “ thou shall know the reason of my love”. Tybalt’s actions show how Romeo had an excuse to hate his enemy and avenge Mercutio. Their close relationship was because they were foils to each other.
