In an article in "Food Matters" called "Grocery Stores Are Packed with Plastic." Some Are Changing" by Alejandra Borunda, the harmful effects of plastic packaging in grocery stores are highlighted as a global problem that has significant effects on the planet. While plastics are widely used, they are mostly known for their negative impacts. As experts always say, finding environmentally friendly packaging options is crucial for reducing the impact that products and their packaging have on our environment. Understanding how our decisions and the environment interact in different ways, shows the need for making better decisions and having enough knowledge of the plastic packaging life cycle, from production to disposal. Food producers can minimize food waste at different stages such as retail, stocking and optimize inventory management by utilizing cutting-edge packaging technology. After having a good look at the context of plastic waste in the food packaging industries, we find out that there are so many ways to reduce environmental harm. In scientific articles, such as "An Overview of Plastic Waste Generation and Management in Food Packaging Industries" by Ncube, et al., they claim that, "To effectively deal with waste, the old way of doing things following the make, use and dispose model should be abandoned for the sustainable make, use, reuse and recycle model" (15) which shows the need for putting effort into new models and programs. Food packaging industries can come up with ideas that lead us to a healthier environment and a better future.
