America was built in the beginning by small “Mom and Pop’ shops that either grew or remained small throughout the many years of their existence. In today’s America some of these “mom and Pop” shops still remain but some have grown to become bigger and spread throughout the country and even the world. Companies like Dicks Sporting goods, Walmart, Ben & Jerry’s have grown from family owned and operated to giant empires in our society. One of those many companies is Foot locker; that was founded in 1879. Foot locker is a top athletic shoe retailer that’s located in New York, New York. Kinney Corporation, Who was also a shoe company that started in 1894. G. R. Kinney was a very successful company with many stores in the US. The two companies then worked together and in 1974 Foot locker was born as a Kinney Shoe division and 1974 the Canadian Kinney’s opened up a women’s foot locker. By the 1990’s Woolco’s shoes were selling in places like Walmart, a corporate giant and in 1997 Woolworth closes the remaining five-and-dime-stores in the United States, one of which was located in Lancaster Pennsylvania. By 1999 Woolco changed its name to Venator group and in 2001 Woolworth changed the company name from Venator Group to Foot Locker, its most profitable store. Foot Locker focuses mainly on sports clothing and apparel but mostly for its shoes. By 2001 the new CEO Matthew Serra was set in place to take Venator Group to a new Beginning as Foot Locker. Serra started to build store outside of the traditional mall area and hit the surrounding areas looking to bring in younger clients to boost more revenue. In 2002 Foot Locker and Nike began to battle over Nike shoes being sold in vendor stores because Foot Locker wanted to start selling higher end shoes from Nike.
