Throughout life, many are faced with obstacles. These obstacles can either set them further in society and help them reach their aspirations, or those challenges can cause one to refrain from reaching their full potential. Which in retrospect makes them settle for less than what they can fully achieve. The difference in those two paths are work ethic; if one works hard and is honest and fair they can truly achieve greatness, while the other simply settles for the easier option which in the long run may cause them more struggle later in life. The facility was created in in the late 1930s and it was a result of the so- called Kansas massacre where three police officers, a bureau agent and a prisoner were killed, it was then they knew they needed a safe place out of the way to train men (FBI). Considering the major issue the U.S. government realized they needed to have highly professional agents be trained so that they know how to handle many different situations and they can protect themselves if needed. While in the academy Gerald went through numerous courses on the skills of fire range and forensic science; he had taken a special interest in skills of forensic science (J. Sheehy). Forensic science was fairly new to the FBI and was only thoroughly used a couple years previous to Geralds’ attendance. “In 1924, an act of Congress established the Identification Division of the FBI. The IACP's National Bureau of Criminal Identification and the US Justice Department's Bureau of Criminal Identification consolidated to form the nucleus of the FBI fingerprint files” (German). Due to the fact that the science was so new when Gerald was studying it in the academy, it made his knowledge so much more significant and useful to others. Later he went on to be recognized as one of the most intelligent students that graduated from the FBI
