Have you ever read the Bible and noticed lots of foreshadowing? A lot of times, events in the Old Testament hint towards events in the New Testament. The lives of Moses and Jesus are very similar, especially in the stories of the Brazen Serpent, the Golden Calf, and both of their births. The story of the Brazen Serpent is about the time when the Israelites escaped Egypt and wandered in the wilderness. They only complained and asked God why he was starving them, so God sent venomous snakes to punish them. Being scared and hurt, the Israelites repented, so God revealed that the only way to be saved from the snakes was to put a snake on a cross-like pole, and whoever looked at it would live. To save humanity, Jesus was put on a cross and died for our sins, like how the snake was put on a cross to save the Israelites from their sins. The story of the Golden Calf is about the time when the Israelites created a false idol and went against God’s will. When Moses was up on Mount Sinai, the Israelites were scared that Moses was taking so long to come down, they created a false cow god made out of their jewelry and belongings. After God realized what the Israelites had done, he sent Moses down to confront them and save them from sin. This story is very similar to Jesus’ entire life and purpose. Like Moses was, Jesus was sent down to Earth by God to save humanity from sin. The story of Moses’ birth is when Moses was put in a river to be saved from Pharaoh. By the time Moses was born, the Pharaoh demanded all babies be killed, because he was worried about the amount of Israelites in his land. When Moses was born, his mother hid him away for 3 months. When she couldn’t hide him any longer, she put him in the Nile river, only to be found by the Pharaoh’s daughter.
