Old Testament Final Essay Throughout the Old Testament, there are many foreshadowing events and verses. These verses give us and the intended audience a glimpse into our Savior. In Genesis, there are many prophecies about Jesus, one of the first is Genesis 3:15. Which shows that Christ is coming, and He is going to crush the grip of Satan on humanity. This is shown in Colossians 2. He endured God’s wrath, and in doing so, gave people an opportunity to turn to Him, and have their slates wiped clean. Satan is defeated. Adam and Eve sinned, but God covers all wrongs. It shows that no matter what we as humans do, God has a greater plan.

In terms of God’s holiness, He is holy because He cannot sin, or be in contact with uncleanliness. He requires us to be perfect, which is why Jesus had to come and die. He had to cleanse us of our sins. He makes intercession on behalf of us because He already took the punishment. However, the people in the Old Testament did not have this luxury. They had to accept the punishment of God through famines, plagues, loss of children, etc. God showed that He is all-powerful, and we cannot treat Him with a second thought, or with a prideful spirit. He demands that we pay attention to each detail, and when they did not do that, they were punished. In contrast, if they were following His laws, and obeying them, they got food provided, their wombs opened, and more.
The Old Testament showed holiness in the practice of sacrifices and the temple. They were aware that if you go into certain rooms with your shoes on, or without certain pieces of clothing to stand for being cleansed then you can be struck dead. They knew that it was necessary to go in reverence to the temple, and they did not have Jesus as their intercessor. She was widowed and picking from the scraps of the field. Boaz fell in love with her, and not only that but told his workers to leave extra scraps for her in the field. They ended up getting married, and He took care of her, and her mother-in-law. This is a notable example of how we should show compassion because we should not see people for what they did, or what happened to them, but rather look at everyone through the eyes of God. We should see the good in people, and rather than showing them pity, show them compassion. Love them first, and then they will be more receptive to the gospel. How are they supposed to understand God’s love if you do not show them what an example of it
