Foster the People is an indie rock band that was formed in 2009 in Los Angeles by Mark Foster. The group is comprised of three members, Mark Foster (multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter), Cubbie Fink (bass) and Mark Pontius (drummer). Mark Foster spent his early twenties struggling to become a known name in music. He became friends with Mark Pontius, who was a film student, and he decided to leave his band “Melbec” to found “Foster the People” with Mark Foster. Finally, they added Cubbie Fink, who was a friend of Mark Pontius. And then “Foster the People” was born. Their first big hit was Pumped Up Kicks, which is a song about a homicidal teenager who is contemplating bringing a gun to school. “Foster the People” is a band whose songs are thought-provoking, and the hit, Pumped up Kicks is no exception. …show more content…
What he did is no one’s fault, nor is it anyone’s fault what the teen in the song fantasizes about doing, but I think that people’s actions can lead someone with mental issues into doing something terrible. One person’s cruel words or lack of decency can drive someone who may be dealing with troubling issues, to do an unthinkable act. I am sure if a person is at the point where they are going to take a gun to school, there must have been a culmination of misfortunes that lead them to doing it, but you never know if you are the one to push them over the edge. A simple compliment could be the turning point for a person considering doing violence to themselves or to others, just as easily as an insult. You could be the person who changes someone’s life for better or for worse. As a high school student, I do my best to be friendly to everyone and make a point of smiling and greeting people in the hallway. These little things can go a long way in someone’s life. As a person who has experienced a bad day, I am able to speak on behalf of the positive impact that a wave and a smile can have in a person’s life. Words and actions have a lot of power. Choose them
