According to the Mayo Clinic “ an adequate intake of water (AI) for men is roughly about 13 cups (3 liters) of total beverages a day. The (AI) for women is about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of total beverages a day”. I drank none. July Fourth of 2006 was the day I realized I did not like orange soda. It was the summer of 2006 and, because my parents divorced when I was 5 years old, I was visiting my dad for his allotted two months in the summer. The Fourth of July has always been my stepmom, Brooklyne’s, favorite so we went down to her parents house in Montrose, Colorado. Brooklyne had planned for my step cousins to come down and we would all spend a couple days at my grandparents house. Then on the fourth we would drive down to Telluride, Colorado because they always have a huge festival on the fourth and it was only an hour and thirty minutes from my grandparents house. The city was beaming with proud Americans getting ready for the parade to start. We parked and when we exited the car we realized how hot the day was going to be. My dad checked the weather and the forecast said that the low for the day was 100°. With all the excitement we had left all of our sunscreen and water bottles at home so, before we found a place to watch the parade, we stopped at a little convenience store. Inside my dad told us all to pick out a drink and he would go buy sunscreen. My sisters, cousins, and I went over to the drink area and all picked out a soda. I picked orange soda because my cousin Emily had and she told me to get the same as her! I had never had it before and she told me it was delicious so I thought why not?
