Authors need to include lots of different techniques into their writing in order to connect to their readers and be able to clearly express emotions in their writing. In order to truly connect with their readers, authors must connect to their inner freedom and relate to their own personal experiences. When a writer uses personal experiences to enhance their ideas, their writing becomes more relatable and powerful to the reader. In this essay Mosley talks about where ideas come from and how you have to keep the ideas fresh in your mind when you write about it. “ These reminiscences surface in your dreams or out of abstract notions brought on by tastes and excitations, failures and hopes that you experience continually.” ( page 161). Here he talks about how everyday experiences are fuel for your writing ideas, it makes a realistic and relatable concept anyone can connect with. Mosley later give an example of this, “ One evening you’re remembering a homeless man, dressed in clothes that smelled like cheese rinds, who you once stood next to on a street corner in New York. Your memory becomes a reverie and in this daydream you ask him where he’s from.” ( page 162). This shows how a simple memory can become so much more with your imagination, but still keeping a personal touch. Later in the essay preserving the idea, “ You open the journal to see what you’d written. You remember everything perfectly, but the life has somehow drained out of it. The words have no art to them; you no longer remember the smell. The idea seems weak, it has dissipated, like smoke.” ( page 162- 163). Here he talks about the importance of keeping up with the memory you are using for your concept. You need to refresh it in your mind every day or else you’ll loose all the important details to it that make it realistic and
