It was calm until approximately 10:00 pm the sirens started to go off, prisoners Frank Lee Morris, John William Anglin, and Clarence Anglin trying to escape. It took 29 years and 14 separate escape but three men finally did it, they escaped from Alcatraz. The supposedly inescapable Alcatraz was broken out of by Frank Lee Morris, John William Anglin, and Clarence Anglin. This took months of careful planning and no mistakes on the breakout.
Frank Lee Morris inmate #1441, John William Anglin inmate #1476, and Clarence Anglin inmate #1485 were brought into Alcatraz for attempted escapes from their former prison (Oceanview 1). They started to plan their escape from Alcatraz around December of 1961. This took careful planning and lots of construction and digging. Oceanview states “The plan was very complex and involved the design and fabrication of ingenious lifelike dummies, water rafts, and life preservers, fashioned from of over 50 rain coats”(1). They had all planned out the escape and did all the construction but then on the night that they all tried to escape the three inmates put down all the face bodies and so did the fourth one (Allen West). But when Allen West tried to kick down the vent in between the two cells the vent would not budge. So the others went on without him. But when Allen finally got the vent open the others were gone. So Allen went back to his cell and told the police what happened. The investigation when on for several years but they finally declared it as a failed escape but some think that they may be still alive
