Conspiracy theories have become a prevalent part of today’s society as the ever-looming belief that the government cannot be trusted further continues to be present thought. A leading conspiracy theory is that the infamous serial killers H.H. Holmes and Jack the Ripper were in fact one in the same. It is believed that H.H. Holmes committed anywhere from 20 to 200 murders during the middle to late 1800’s. He was arrested and tried for the homicides in 1894, but was not convicted until 1895. The next year, in May of 1896 H.H. Holmes was hung for the murder of one of his victims, Benjamin Pitezel, later being laid to rest in a cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

They dug at the walls for months. After that they would get across the roof and down a drainpipe, then they would get down to their makeshift boat. Finally they got out, the three men escaped Alcatraz on june 11,1962.

Sitting on a hill over the Colorado River remains the old Yuma historical Territorial prison. This prison was known as the desert Alcatraz Island. The prison was found/created by Fernando de Alarcon with this man named Coronado who found the site back in 1540. Also Padre Kino saw the current location of the prison and the Quartermaster's Depot in 1683. Padre Graces established a mission directly across the river and was later killed there by the Indians in 1781.

Alabama Governor Bibb Graves reportedly agreed to parole the four boys who were convicted, but after facing public backlash changed his mind. Three of the four boys convicted, Charlie Weems, Clarence Norris, and Andy Wright, were all paroled by 1950, because the courts found that the boys were denied a fair trial as there were no African American people allowed to serve on a jury in Alabama at that time. Clarence Norris was sent back to jail when he broke parole. Norris remained in jail until he was pardoned by the Alabama governor in 1976 (Thomas 3). Haywood Patterson escaped prison and fled to Detroit, Michigan.

The guards almost immediately noticed he was missing and John was met by an officer as soon as he got off the boat was returned to Alcatraz. Yet another escape attempt was made in 1958 by Aaron Burgett and Clyde Johnson. They were working garbage detail one day and overpowered the correctional officer and tried to swim away from the island. Johnson was caught in the water, but Burgett was not found until two weeks later when his body was found floating in the bay.
