“Beware; for I am fearful, and therefore powerful,” wrote Mary Shelly in her book Frankenstein. These words show that fearing someone can give them more power than they deserve. In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, modernized by Gris Grimly, there is a story about Victor Frankenstein, who wants to explore life and death by creating a creature out of dug-up body parts. Once the creature was made, everyone, including Victor, saw it as terrifying, ugly, and wretched, but the creature just wanted to live his life with a mate, a female version of himself. As the creature begins to explain his feelings towards Victor, he confronts him about how he treats him, abandoning him and leaving him to fend for himself, even though they share a bond of creator and creation. We also see in the book how society treats him, treating him with no sympathy or compatriotism; they only see him for his looks. Causing the creature to hate Victor for making him look this way. Next, the creature and Willam, Victor's younger brother, come into contact with one another, William yelling in fear, “Hideous monster! let me go; My papa is M. Frankenstein— he would punish you" (113). As the creature hears the name “Frankenstien," it enrages him, causing him to commit murder against little William. Hoping this will cause “despair” on Victor, as stated, “My enemy is not impregnable; this death will carry despair on him, and a thousand other miseries shall destroy him” (113). The creature is now vowing to cause “miserie” on Victor in the form of death.
