Franklin Crabbe Character Analysis

One summer night before his final exams, 18 years old Franklin Crabbe, the main character of the novel “Crabbe” by William Bell, packed his bags and ran away from his home and into the woods. He was unhappy from his life, and he blamed his parents about that. His journey to the bush taught Crabbe many things. The hardships and risky experiences that Crabbe faced as well as his friendship with Mary Pallas made him a much stronger, self-reliant, and responsible person. To begin, Crabbe grew into a physically stronger person through his experiences in the woods. As he mentioned at the beginning of the story, Franklin was a weak and a non-athletic person. Anything that required strength, such as paddling and carrying a canoe, was challenging for
