Jerome Kisembe
Jerome Kisembe was the leader of the rebel army in the Congo. He was a powerful man, being a leader of so many people. Additionally, Jerome has a short temper and go off on anyone at a moment’s notice. He opposes the government, hence why he fights them. Often he would visit Mama Nadi’s bar where he would be treated with respect out of fear of his anger. Commander Osembenga is trying to track him down and kill him to stop the rebellion. Greed is one thing driving both him and the Commander forward in the war. They strive to be rich and will harm others to get their way.
Commander Osembenga
Commander Osembenga is high up in the government, being assigned with taking on Jerome Kisembe and his militia. He is a loud man and is the kind of man that expects everyone to instantly respect him. Once Mama Nadi learned who he was, she instantly started giving him a special treatment. This was out of fear that Osembenga would do something rash. After Salima was abducted and abused, he refused to have her back. He then was put into the army; a life he grew to hate. Fortune wanted forgiveness from his wife and so went to seek her out with his cousin, Simon. They made their way to Mama Nadi’s bar where Salima was located, but she did not want to see him. Fortune was not one to give up however. He stood outside of Mama Nadi’s bar until he could see Salima. While standing at the entrance, he saw Jerome Kisembe enter Mama Nadi’s bar and told Commander Osembenga when he arrived there. They then chased after Kisembe using Fortune’s information. Later, they came back and started ravaging Mama Nadi’s bar until Salima came out to stop the fighting. She was bleeding, so Fortune came to her aid, but it was too late.
