Characters' actions are driven by different traits. Above all, bravery drives these actions the most. Yetta from Uprising, Mitty from Code Orange, and Todd Beamer from Let’s Roll! are the three most brave characters introduced in the stories. Their actions significantly affect the stories in which they came. Bravery is the trait that drives characters' actions the most. Bravery guides one to do what is right, even when that means running up into a burning building to save others. Haddix adds tension to Uprising, by showing Yetta’s bravery and self-sacrifice: “‘Somebody has to tell the ninth floor!’”(Haddix 276). When Yetta runs up to the ninth floor, she knows that she is jeopardizing her life. She also knows that if she doesn’t warn the ninth floor, a lot more people will die. Yetta is both scared for herself and others. Her bravery shows through when she runs up into the burning fire to save other workers. Yetta gambled her life for those on the ninth floor. Her act of bravery saved workers on the ninth floor, but trapped her on the ninth floor, with nothing left to do but to jump. Todd Beamer from flight 93 and Let’s Roll, by Lisa Beamer, put the safety of those on the ground before the safety of his own life: “It’s what we have to do”(Beamer 212). Todd was scared for the his life and the other passenger’s lives. Todd and the other passengers overthrew the plane and crashed it in an empty field, saving countless lives and the White House. This sacrifice is a great example of bravery, as the way the passengers rebelled against the terrorists is very courageous and brave. The actions of the passengers resulted in saving many people on the ground, along with saving the White House.
