When Franklin D. Roosevelt was inaugurated he said, “I pledge myself a new deal for the American people.” The term ‘New Deal’ came to signify the relief, recovery, and reform programs Roosevelt and his administration created to bring America out of the Depression. There were two phases in the New Deal, each phase was full of different relief and recovery programs aimed at helping the general population od America lead a better quality of life and pull America out of the Great Depression. In phase one there were many relief and recovery programs, two of those being the Civil Works Administration and the Agricultural Adjustment Act. The Civil Works Administration was a very successful program; it provided jobs for thousands of unemployed citizens.
