Milton Rubenfeld was one example of a devoted MACHAL recruit. He was a stunt pilot and World War II veteran from the RAF (Royal Air Force), and the American Air Force as well. Rubenfeld flew proudly to protect Israel, and, as reported by his son, “he felt it was his destiny”. Rubenfeld and many others like him risked their lives to fly for a country about which they knew nothing of. They were well aware of the horrors that the Jewish people had experienced during the WWII and were more than ready to ensure that it would never happen again.
Starting life as a free black slave in Ellicott's Mills, Maryland, Benjamin Banneker was largely self-educated in astronomy and mathematics. Born on November 9, 1731, Benjamin Banneker was the son of an ex-slave named Robert and his wife, Mary Banneky. Mary was the daughter of an Englishwoman named Molly Welsh, a former indentured servant, and her husband, Bannka, an ex-slave whom she freed and who asserted that he came from tribal royalty in West Africa. Because both of his parents were free, Benjamin escaped the wrath of slavery as well. He was taught to read by his grandmother and for a very short time attended a small Quaker school.

Henry Wirz was perhaps one of the most controversial people involved in the Civil War. Many people saw him as a monster, the man responsible for the numerous deaths at the Andersonville Prison, while others thought he was just a scapegoat for the higher-ups, the man blamed for their mistakes. The only man hung for Civil War crimes, Henry Wirz was charged with the slaughter of over 13,000 of the prisoners who were kept in the Andersonville Prison. But where did his story begin?
Benjamin Banneker had notable accomplishments in his life. A few among the many would be his almanacs, the vital role he played in the construction of Washington D.C, and his correct prediction of a solar eclipse which proved many experts wrong. Benjamin Banneker was described as innovative as he was the first ever recognized African-American scientist, and was crucial in the development of American astronomy. In paragraph five it is said that, “In 1773, he began to make astronomical calculations for almanacs, which were used frequently by farmers.
Justin Vega P.4 What’s the first thing you think about when you hear the name National Football League? It might be the Super Bowl, or the Jaguars, or if you’re like me, The Lombardi trophy. The Lombardi trophy is named after the greatest NFL coach to ever live and coach the game, Vince Lombardi. Lombardi coached arguably one of the best teams in the history of football, the 1960’s Green Bay Packers.
The United States, a nation founded on the beliefs of equality, upholds an inhumane enslavement of African Americans that opposes its values. In 1791, Benjamin Banneker, a free African American, sends a letter to Thomas Jefferson urging him to reconsider his stance on slavery. In an excerpt from his letter to Thomas Jefferson, Banneker’s personal criticisms of slavery are presented through the use of varied diction, knowledgeable allusions, and impelling appeals illuminating the hypocrisy of the United States’ institution of slavery and their foundations of equality. Banneker begins his letter (Lines 1-30) entreating Jefferson to reflect on the hardships he faced to achieve liberty. Banneker starts with “sir” and continually refers to Jefferson

Abraham Flexner Historians revere and are reviled by Abraham Flexner. He advocated educational reform to keep pace with European models, but he also clearly believed that any kind of medicine other than allopathic was inferior. Being revered by forward thinking educators made him the ideal front man for the moneyed chemical cartel in America. Historian Joseph Goulden describes the process this way: “Flexner had the ideas, Rockefeller and Carnegie had the money, and their marriage was spectacular. The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research and the General Education Board showered money on tolerably respectable schools and on professors who expressed an interest in research.”

The author of “The Literary Panorama, and National Register, N.S., 8 (1 June 1818): 411-414.” uses the critical analysis to point out the flaws of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein story. Although there have been many re-printings of Frankenstein, Mary Shelley originally wrote and published her book Frankenstein in 1818. When Frankenstein was first published in 1818 it was met with mixed reviews like any good book is. I found my critical analysis on the website Romantic circles run by the University of Maryland under the The Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Chronology & Resource Site by Shanon Lawson.
