Book Review: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave.

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass was an autobiography published in the year 1845. It was a very interesting story, that was meant for readers to understand how life was for the black slaves. Frederick Douglass was born as a slave. He described how they ate, he said the fastest kid got to eat the most. The book was very descriptive and had wide range of subject, for example, he did not only talk about his life as a slave, but others lives too, and also how woman were treated.
Frederick Douglass went through so much as a kid and adult, many would have expected him to lose faith, but he always thought that one day, it will all be over. This idea made the …show more content…

Douglass told about his path to learning, how he had to trick other children into teaching him to read and write. Douglass was a very smart kid, he used whatever he could find to help with his reading and writing skills. He even tricked a boy into teaching him how to write, by telling him he can not write at the same level as him. Douglass had the courage to write everything that had happened in his life, which could be extremely hard to do, since most of these occurrences were of horrible mistreatment of black slaves. He was aware of the dangers of publishing this information, and of becoming well known. He may have been afraid to be captured or killed by his old master, or by people who disagreed with him, but he did not show that, or he simply said to himself, “Everything I am doing, I am doing for my people, not just for myself, and I will not let it be in vain, I will do everything I can to help stop slavery, and racism, and sexism.” Douglass life was beyond hard, it was almost unbearable, even to read about it makes you wish you could do something to help, which is what I love about this
