Throughout, the stories face many obstacles and the obstacles that were hard to handle. Having an education can get people very far in life. Many people want an education and may cant get it. If people believe in themselves and follow their dreams, nothing should be able to stop them. The main people in the stories went after what they wanted and didn't care what they had to do to get it. Getting am education should be persons main priority in life if they want to be successful. “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.” In order for people to get where they want to be in life they have to be determined, smart, and hopeful. They all knew what they needed to do to get the education the wanted. Being smart not only means they had to be book smart but also have common sense. But they all were smart in different ways. Frederick Douglas was a slave so he had to think smart while still trying to do his job. He wanted an education but also so wanted to be a free slave he sometimes had to make sacrifices. As of Malcolm X with him being in jail he had to think outside the box. He didn’t know what was really going on in the world he just wanted to be free.
