What is your first initial reaction to free post secondary education? Many of you would probably say that it is a great idea and should be authorized.The thought itself seems like a very agreeable proposal, however, in reality it's pretty hard to obtain without any negative consequences. Because we don't live in Disney,nor do we have magic powers ,(Allusion) we cannot make dreams come true with no consequences, and if that was able to happen I wouldn’t be making a speech on why free education would not work. Many other countries have tried to remove tuition fees but was unsuccessful, so why might people think it be successful in Canada?(rhetorical question)
Germany is one of the notable countries that enabled free post secondary education to everyone which includes international students.(Lisa Goetz, 5) This means the students pay practically nothing. However, there is no such thing as free university.(Christopher Denhart, 1) Students don’t pay for their education, taxpayers do. And who might these taxpayers be? Well that will be you after you graduate. But for now it will only be for your parents and many others who normally pay tax. So this free education we talk about isn’t actually free. And a similar case happened in the United Kingdom, nearly half of the graduates were working non-graduate jobs. Because too many people are put into higher education already.
