Macbeth gets informed by three witches that there is a possibility of him becoming thane of Cawdor and eventually the king of Scotland. Macbeth and his wife plot to kill King Duncan, the current king of Scotland. This death succeeds. Macbeth is afraid that his companion, Banquo, will gain power and become king so Macbeth hires a group of murderers to go out and kill Banquo. Malcolm hears about the news that Macbeth murdered Macduff's wife and children from England and brings his army to fight in Scotland. Macbeth ends up killing Macduff but realizes that Malcolm, Henry’s son that fled, has become the new king of Scotland.

Romeo not receiving the message about Juliet was fate. Juliet wakes up from the sleeping potion and asks the friar where Romeo is. The friar responds by saying that some higher power has changed their original plans. That higher power is what we have no control over; fate. “A greater power than we can contradict Hath thwarted our intents. (5,3,244)” Moreover, the prologue points out that Romeo and Juliet have fate against them. It says that their love is death marked.“ The fearful passage of their death-marked love (prologue,21)”. Destiny in Romeo and Juliet is when Romeo chooses to attend the Capulet’s celebration. Romeo chooses to attend the celebration that the Capulets are hosting which leads him to meeting Juliet. “I’ll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendour of my own. (1,2,48)” The nurse’s destiny is to betray Juliet. The nurse knows Juliet’s love for Romeo but still suggests that she be an unfaithful wife. “Damn me if I’m wrong:I think this second marriage is fortunate, because it’s better than you’re first. [afterwards Juliet curses her]. (3,5,189)” In Macbeth fate is one of the greatest powers but in this case, Macbeth can defeat his fate. The captain says here that Macbeth should have died in battle just as Romeo and Juliet should have died at the end of the plot- but Macbeth was stronger than his fate unlike Romeo and Juliet who joint their fate. “CAPTAIN …show more content…

From reading act one; my favourite character is that of Macbeth himself. I chose this character as he is so complex and appears to have several facets to his personality. In some scenes he is shown as a brave warrior steeped in honour and many are in awe of him. Yet we also see that he has a desire to become king and at first gave the impression that he had no qualms about killing the current king, Duncan, to attain his dream of becoming king. Yet we also see that he has a conscience as he is hesitant in killing Duncan when he realises that it would be the wrong thing to do and that he himself would be condemned by the Scottish people.Macbeth is portrayed as a brave war hero in scene two, when the captain describes the battle between him and Macdonwald and also his defeat of the Norwegian advance. Because of this King Duncan decides to award Macbeth with the title of the thane of Cawdor. Macbeth is described as ruthless by the captain when dwelling on scenes of carnage: “he unseamed him from the nave to th’ chops” he says, describing Macbeth killing Macdonwald. However, in the next scene we see another side to Macbeth when he meets with the three witches and shows a more sinister side and one that strikes fear in the audience. The witches foretell that Macbeth will become thane of cawdor and then be crowned King of Scotland. At first Macbeth didn’t fully believe the witches prediction and seems shaken by this
