The United States of America is, and continues to be, associated in many people’s minds with freedom. A handful of individuals between 1400-1800 CE can be held accountable for this conceptualization of American Freedom. Some men such as Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson aided or attempted to aid the African slaves imported to the British colonies during the 18th century in there fight for freedom. Meanwhile a large portion of the white population in the colonies was being denied basic civil liberties and omitting John and Abigail Adams no one seemed to care. One man in this time appears to have no concern for the freedoms of any group of people, including his subjects.

The American Freedom Party (also known as American Third Position Party) is a bizarre, white supremacist political party with conservative (limited government) ideals that was created in 2010. Their website is http://american3rdposition.com/ and some of their main focuses are Anti-Immigration, Anti-Gun Control, and Anti Same-Sex Marriage. There is no way this political party will gain ground here in America for many reasons. First would be that they are a white supremist group with far-right ideals. The United States is a diverse country that supports “equality for all” and for a third party to promote “whites only” – they aren’t going to get a majority support to make it to Congress.
Living in America is a privilege considering all of the rights we, U.S. citizens are given. These rights include freedom of speech, freedom of press, trial by jury, right to bare arms, right to vote and so many more basic things people should be given. But back in the colonial era the colonists didn’t have any of these rights that they thought were “unalienable rights” meaning every person should have them and they can't be taken from us, so they fought for those rights. And because of this war we now have so many rights that we take granted of every day and love. Some of these important rights also include the right to a capitalistic economy and a fair chance at wealth and gain.
Freedom is the very principle on which our country is founded. We say that it is this freedom that makes the United States so great and powerful, it is this freedom that makes our country the best in the whole world. Yet the famed essayist and social critic H.L. Mencken says that, “The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” In saying this, Mencken is basically stating that the allure of this country is not its freedom, but its safety and protection from the dangers of the world.
America, the land of freedom, opportunity, and heroism. This is America, an unlikely country born of bravery and courage. It’s beginnings were humble and small, but like all valuable things that were meant to be, it grew, beginning with a few struggling colonies in the New World under the rule of Great Britain, to a thriving nation. After years of sickness, hunger, and overall hardship, the colonists stayed strong, and pressed forward.
The American revolution was all about freedom and liberty. Characters throughout the story voice different opinions on their idea of freedom and liberty. During this fight for freedom and liberty, there were three main groups. Patriots(colonist against the king), Loyalists(colonist for the king), and the slaves. They all describe freedom and liberty in different ways.

One of the most important aspects of being American is our value of freedom. This includes the freedom of speech, religion, and expression, as well as the right to own property and pursue happiness. This commitment to freedom is reflected in our country’s founding documents, such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, which establish the basic principles of our government and guarantee individual liberties to all citizens. The United States of America is a country that is built upon a foundation of unique values and principles.
What is America to you? Democracy is what first would come to mind, it is the core value of what America stands for. Being democratic has given the United States of America a title of a leader of change by its people. Recent survey information from local University of California, Santa Barbara students, the millennials feel as though the democratic system is up to our values with improvement of representation toleration in our nation.
Freedom Anyone in the world with an occasional source of internet has no choice but to see the seemingly outrageous news stories, posted weekly on events in the US. American’s have made their distrust in the government more than obvious, which in many cases, the government has provoked. The largest debate in the states today is the with the concept of freedom and where the lines are drawn between social security, equality, and one’s rights. Freedom is and always has been heavily emphasized in the development of the 50 states. It’s brought peace and war both figuratively and literally.
A Constitutional Perspective on The Preservation of Liberty To establish which amendment in the Bill of Rights is the most influential to the preservation of liberty, one must first determine the true meaning of the word liberty. The Oxford dictionary defines liberty as “The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behaviour, or political views.” Not only is this one of the core values ingrained into the base of our American culture, but it is also one of the main characteristics of a successful community (“First Amendment.”) Many societies argue that citizens do not have basic rights, the first amendment does the best job at protecting the nation's rights from the government by giving individuals freedom of speech, religion, and freedom of petition. The First Amendment has five freedoms guaranteed for the American people’s such as the right to religion, speech, and petition.
I understand that freedom is very important to humans because freedom give us the opportunity to do whatever we choose, but when it comes down to safety or freedom, safety is most important. Many people choose freedom over safety everyday and end up placing themselves in a position to end up in a dangerous situation. Many people have been through serious situations just because they felt like their freedom was more important than their safety, and I bet if they had another chance to think about the situation they would have went back and choose their safety over freedom. Safety is something you wish for not only yourself, but your family, friends, etc. There are many nefarious people in this world that do not care about others.
Two Concepts of Liberty Summary of the essay: In this essay, the famous political theorist Isaiah Berlin tries to differentiate between the notions of positive liberty and negative liberty. Berlin briefly discusses the meaning of the word ‘freedom’. He says that a person is said to free when no man or body of men interferes with his activity. He makes reference to many philosophers in the essay, but there is more emphasis on the thoughts of J. S. Mill and Rousseau, the former being a firm advocate of negative liberty while the latter believes strongly in the ideals of positive liberty.
