Freedom In the community Lowry demonstrates Jonas as a loving caring person who soon becomes a rebellious person who breaks the rules discovering something that changes his life forever. (NEED TO ADD BACKGROUND) Lowry's characterization of Jonas emphasizes the importance freedom in the community. through her development of His training with the giver, Release, and His final escape.

Jonas + Strong emotions + His training with the giver

One way Lowry emphasizes the importance of freedom in the community through Jonas’ training with the Giver. After several weeks of training with the Giver Jonas starts to see colors in his ordinary life. But he can’t always keep them and he is frustrated. He gets emotional and says, “It isn’t fair that nothing has color...if everything is the same then there aren't any choices I want to wake up in the morning and decide things!” (97). Jonas asked to watch this morning's release “Thank You for your instructions sir” The speaker responded The screen came out, And horrified with the images that he had just saw. Quote 1: he killed it, my father killed it jonas said to home-self stunned at what he was realizing. He continued to stare at the screen numbly.
He finds out that release means to get shot on your forehead with a lethal syringe and listens to the giver talk about the failure. Rosemary

Quote 2: I sat there numb with horror. Wretched with helplessness. And I listened as rosemary told them that she would prefer to inject herself. :’(
Jonas is feeling emotional because he had just found about release and was witnessing it as well on the big screen which makes him feel even more
