Freeman Hrabowski, currently President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, lived in Birmingham, Alabama during the Civil Rights movement. At twelve years of age, he participated in a Children’s Crusade demonstration organized by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and other leaders of the time. Hrabowski’s motivation for participating was his passion for learning and the desire to ensure equal educational opportunities for minority children. His passion for education has never abated. After completing his own education, he has continued to work towards improving student success in all fields of study. At UMBT, experimenting with redesigning courses proved successful in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, but the same results
