Nationalism throughout all of these regions exhibits a few similarities and differences. One universal similarity between all of these is nationalism’s ability to inspire violence, evident by revolutions. Another is the centralization and unification of countries based on ethnic and cultural groups (by nationalism). One difference is that the Middle East does not actually have a significant violent protest attributed to nationalism. Nationalism was a major contributor to acts of violence, mainly seen through revolutions and rebellions (excluding ME). Examples of these in each region are the French Revolution, independence movements in Latin America, Second Boer War and the Boxer Rebellion. This stems from the unifying nature of nationalism
