The French Revolution was a revolutionary movement that took place during 1789 to 1799. At the age of 15, Louis XVI was the king of France and he married the daughter of emperor and empress of Austria, Marie Antoinette, to consolidate the the alliance between France and Austria. The very first couple years of marriage for Louis and Marie were friendly but isolated from each other. Louis had a shy characteristic which kept him distant from her in private and his fear of her manipulation made him rude to her in public. Louis inherited severe financial problems from his grandfather which made his job hard. The main causes of the revolutionary era was economic hardship, political conflict, and an ineffective ruler.
From the start, King Louis XVI was unsuited to help regain France’s financial issues. At the outbreak of the revolution, Marie and Louis refused to receive advice from constitutional monarchists who were willing to help reform the monarchy to save it. Everything continued to go downhill from there.
