The letter needed to get to Romeo so he would be aware that Juliet was not actually dead. By this point, Friar Laurence should be expecting the unexpected. Romeo’s and Juliet’s threats of suicide if they couldn’t be together should alert the friar that the flaws in his plan could lead to death for Romeo or Juliet or both. Subsequently after Juliet drank the vial, Friar Laurence made three lesser mistakes; yet, these mistakes would still lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence made his first mistake when he encountered Friar John, who was sent to Mantua to deliver the message to Romeo that Juliet was indeed alive.
Juliet comes to Friar Lawrence's sell for guidance on what to do so she will not have to marry Paris, the Friar has a plan. Friar says to go home and tell Capulet that she will marry Paris, make the nurse sleep in a different room because the Friar has a potion that will make Juliet seem dead. He will send a letter to Romeo that will tell him about the plan so Romeo can come get Juliet from the Capulet tomb(Shakespeare 778 4.2.89-120). The Friar had a good plan to get Juliet out of marrying Friar but his letter never got to Romeo, leading him to believe that Juliet is dead, causing him to commit suicide. Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead in the tomb and kills herself.
When Juliet learns she has to marry Paris, she turns to the friar for help, saying she will kill herself if he speaks “not of remedy” (4.1.68). Friar Lawrence plans to fake Juliet’s death and advises her to drink a vial with liquor which “When presently through all thy veins shall run / A cold and drowsy humor” (4.1.97-98). Yet he makes the unwise decision to let Romeo know by letter, saying that he’ll “send a friar with speed / To Mantua with [his] letters to thy lord” (4.1.125-126). However, he doesn’t think of the possible consequences, including the possibility of the letter being delayed. Unfortunately, Friar John is quarantined and the searchers of the town do “not let [him] forth”, so he is unable to deliver the letter (5.2.11).

He had given Juliet, who was begging for help, a small vial containing the liquid that would fake Juliet’s death. When the time had come, he depended too much on Friar John, and Romeo received the wrong news. Romeo had thought that Juliet was dead and went back to Verona with a bottle of poison to kill himself. Quickly, Friar Lawrence ran to stop him, only to find Romeo dead and Juliet waking up.
He was given a letter by Friar Lawrence to bring to Romeo which told of the plan of faking Juliet’s death. Friar John never delivered the letter because he instead stopped to visit the sick. Friar John said, “I could not send it- here it is again-,” (Act V, ii) giving the letter back to Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence knew that the letter was important for Romeo to read and said to Friar John, “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood, the letter was not nice but full of charge, of dear import, and the neglecting it may do much danger.”
But what made everything worse was when he promised Juliet that once she woke up from the poison, Romeo would greet her and they could live happily ever after. Everything was going according to plan; he made the letter for Friar John to give to Romeo, but he didn’t know that there was a plague outbreak going around and they had to quarantined there, so the letter was never

Meanwhile Friar John was stuck in a town away with the letter holding the truth, someone else came and told Romeo that Juliet had died.
In the story books we all read as kids, there was no better place to live than a beautiful castle. It was where all the highest among high lived. Castles appear strong and sturdy on the outside, but they are weak and vulnerable on the inside. When under attack, it can only take so many hits before the entire thing collapses. Friar John could not control the disease that was coming towards him nor could he control the inability to send the letter. Fate could have prevented the letter from getting to Romeo as it may have known that Juliet and Romeo and just not meant to be together. The quarantine of Friar John is not simply an unfortunate event, but rather a fateful occurrence that seals the tragic fate of the star-crossed lovers. Although Friar John couldn't prevent the disease from coming to him, Friar Laurance could have better prepared Friar John with his letter and could have sent him with a companion. The result of Romeo not getting the letter led to him killing himself.
Due to the pressure by her parents to marry Count Paris, Juliet ingests a potion crafted by Friar Lawrence. The potion’s purpose was for Juliet to fake her death and to escape and live with Romeo in a different town. There were many ways this plan could fail.
