In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the actions taken in the story show that even small decisions can make one responsible for unexpected repercussions. This is exemplified by the actions of Romeo and Juliet and the other characters, who all contributed in some form to their deaths. One character whose actions particularly show this is Friar Lawrence. By helping Juliet form a high-stakes plan and relying on weak outside forces to make it work, Friar Lawrence became largely responsible for the deaths of her and Romeo. Even then, his intentions are good, or at least ambiguous, as he wishes to resolve their families’ conflict.
