Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story of young love, family feuds, and underlying secrets. Rome and Juliet were two young lovers that got caught between their feuding families. There are many things that contributed to both Romeo and Juliets death, but the most significant reason was Friar Lawrence. He is responsible for their deaths because of his bad advice and how he let teenagers make serious decisions without their families knowledge. When Romeo and Juliet came to the friar in need of help, his guidance would always lead them to the decisions he wanted instead of what was best. After Romeo kills Tybalt he says “oh I am fortunes fool”(3.1.136). All the decisions that Friar Lawrence has made ultimately caught up to him, and he knows that he has made a grave mistake. The second that Friar Lawrence married them his fate was set up, if the Friar had just said no all of this would have never happened. Friar Lawrence said “These violent delights have violent ends / And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, / Which as they kiss consume” (2.6.9-11). Even though he knew all of it would end badly he still did it. He knew that they were moving to fast, and that there families would never agree. After all of this Prince Escalus says “And here I stand, both to impeach and purge, / For as thou art, the times were troublesome” (5.3.305-306). The feud has ended and he must prevent something like this from happening again. Friar Lawrence is finally getting in trouble for the secrets he has kept and the things he let happen.
