Romeo and Juliet’s deaths were not just one person’s fault; many people contributed to how they ended up dying. Even though these people did not kill them physically, they are still a part of the reason they died. The person who contributed to this matter but still did not have much effect was the nurse; she talked badly about Romeo, which set off Juliet. The next person who was most at fault but not the most was Tybalt; he caused a scene with Romeo, which started the whole Romeo leaving situation. The person who was most at fault was Friar Lawrence; even though he married them and wanted the best for them, he was still a big part of the reason they died.

The person who is most to blame would be Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence was the one who came up with the plan about Juliet going into a deep sleep. His plan had too many flaws which he could not fix in time and caused their deaths. Friar Lawrence told Juliet, “When you’re in bed, take this small bottle and swallow this distilled liquid” (Shakespeare 4.1. 197). He gave Juliet the potion which caused Juliet to go into a deep sleep but did not think about the risks. In the first place, Tybalt never liked Romeo because he was a Montague. The family rivalry had already caused problems between Romeo and Tybalt. Tybalt says to Romeo, “Romeo, such is my regard for you that I can say no more than this: you are a villain” (Shakespeare 3.1. 135). Tybalt ultimately says this to Romeo to start a fight with him. At that moment, Romeo did not want to fight, which caused Mercutio to get involved. Mercutio ends up getting killed because of Tybalt, which causes Romeo to kill Tybalt out of rage.
