Romeo and Juliet, the tragedy by William Shakespeare is a wonderfully written play. This play is about two families, The Montagues and The Capulets who have the same social status yet despise each other. Romeo, a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet secretly fall in love. They become married and instead of living happily ever after, it ends in a tragic death. While Romeo and Juliet physically committed the acts that ended their own lives, the nurse and Friar Lawrence should be blamed for their deaths. Some people may think that Lord Capulet is ultimately to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. This is a common misconception as most think Lord Capulet forced the marriage of Paris onto Juliet. This shows that the nurse is helping to keep their marriage a secret by sneaking Romeo into Juliet's bedroom. The nurse also played a big role in the couple's deaths because she was so indecisive on who Juliet shall marry. In the beginning the nurse encourages Juliet’s relationship with Romeo. Then after Romeo was exiled she changed her mind and encouraged Juliet to marry Paris. This makes Juliet feel betrayed and like her nurse is not helping or supporting her anymore. So, Juliet takes things into her own hands by visiting Friar Lawrence for help. If the nurse would had supported her and made up her mind, Juliet would not have felt compelled to go to the Friar for help. Resulting in her not buying the potion causing Romeo's death. The nurse should have stopped Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. She should have interfered with their relationship because as Juliet’s nurse, she should have Juliet's best interest and be looking out for her. Instead of interfering, the nurse encouraged their relationship by keeping it a secret. The nurse warns Romeo not to deceive Juliet, but she never physically takes action to stop their relationship.
