Frida Kahlo was a famous, Latin female, painter who was and is still widely known for her self-portraits. She was born on July 6,1907 in Coyocoan, Mexico City. Although, Frida became very successful in life, she went through a lot of pain throughout most of her it. Frida was a strong woman and she literally worked herself to death. Despite that she is known as a feminist icon today and for her paintings.
Family/Childhood

Her dream was to become a doctor. The school she went to however was prestigious and Matilde did not approve of Frida going there, but Wilhelm did he wanted her to obtain a vigorous education. Frida was very intelligent she caught onto things quickly,” By the age of 16 Frida was able to read not only in Spanish but English and German as well” (n.d.). Her dream of becoming a doctor was ruined quickly by a tragic bus crash, “the bus collided with a streetcar and Frida Kahlo was seriously injured. A steel handrail impaled her through the hip. Her spine and pelvis are fractured, and this accident left her in a great deal of pain, both physically and physiologically” (n.d.). After the accident painting was what she happened to turn to and it lead her to pursue her career in being a painter.
Her Marriage
Frida ended up marrying a famous artist name Diego Rivera who she admired and just so happened to meet in the school she attended. “As a young artist, Kahlo approached the famous Mexican painter, Diego Rivera, whose work she admired, asking him for advice about pursuing art as a career. He immediately recognized her talent and her unique expression as truly special and uniquely Mexican. He encouraged her development as an artist and soon began an intimate relationship with Frida. They were married in 1929, despite the disapproval of Frida's mother” (n.d.).
