The theme of friendship in the novel, Of Mice and Men is “friendship is necessary for human survival.” The theme is explored within the adventures of Georgia and Lennie. So, I think that the theme is true for both George and Lennie. In the novel on page 15, Lennie says,” But not us! An’ why? Because… because I got you to look after me, and you got to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that’s why.” This quote shows that the theme is true for both Lennie and George because the quote shows the unique relationship between the two: they both look out for each other. Also, on page 16 and 17, George says,” Lennie -if you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an’ hide in the brush…(Lennie) Sure I can, George. Hide in the brush till you come.” This shows how Lennie and George plan things and how they always agree on the ideas they have in mind. Also, they stick together and whatever situations they are in, they always have a plan to fix it. In the novel on page 16, George says,” What are you gonna say tomorrow when the boss asks you questions?” and Lennie says,” … I … I ain’t gonna… say a word.” These quotes show that they always agree on whatever decisions they make even though it can turn into a really big situation. Since Lennie has been with George for a long time, he follows George’s plans without really ever thinking about the situation. Also, this gives enough evidence of why Lennie follows only George’s plans. In my opinion, George and Lennie’s relationship will never cease and fail since they almost never gave up on each
