The novella, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck is read by many high schools today. It was published in 1937 and is still read because many of the themes are still considered relevant. Even though the novella contains sensitive themes, it should remain in the school’s curriculum because it teaches valuable lessons about the topics of friendship as well as how the treatment of others affects them; including women, people with mental disabilities, and people of color.
