According to Joseph Epstein, publisher of 14 books, about 80,000 books are published every year. Obviously all the books aren't published through the same company, if all books were published through the same company, then there wouldn’t be as many books in the world as there are now. Getting one book published may not seem very hard, but when there are thousands of people writing books, the demand for getting books published is very high. People have found other ways to publish their books without needing to use a major publishing company to publish their book, like self publishing. People have also taken many different steps to reach their goal, a published book to call their own.
While many people may have heard of the major publishing companies like Harpercollins, Scholastic, Pearson, and Penguin House, these companies aren’t the only ways to get a book published. The big name publishers are traditional publishing companies. The author receives royalties and a payment in advance, but they have to comply with editors and agents to get their book out into the world. Another type of publishing is partnership publishing. Fully assisted publishing is for those who don’t want to do much but get their book out to the world. All the author does is write a check and then someone else publishes and distributes the book. There are two more types of publishing, do-it-yourself with a distributer and do-it-yourself direct publishing. Both types of publishing are usually online, but do-it-yourself with a distributer allows someone else to reach other websites for you. The different types of publishing have varying levels of freedom for the author, but no matter what type of publishing is used, the book will still be
