Funding for college should be improved “What do you want to be when you grow up?” is something most children, if not all, are asked. Even at such a young age most of the responses are careers like doctors, policemen, firefighters, engineers, or mechanics. All of those answers require a college degree to some extent. College for most people has always been in the back of their minds weather that be just giving thinking about what college can do for you or already knowing you are going. Although most students are planning on attending college, it's not until high school that they realize the expenses and different opportunities that are or are not available. According to Iowa College Student Aid Commision low income families are less likely to remain and finish college after enrolling, but also a large amount of low income families do not ever enroll into a postsecondary school. Center on Budget and Policy Priorities says, slashing higher education funding is jeopardizing the ability of students to afford a college education, which is the key to their long term financial success. If these low income families are not able to pay for college straight up, which most people do not, they pull out thousands of dollars in loans. These loans stack up over the years that the student is in college which ends with the student to be in an enormous amount of debt. Not going to college can sometimes be frowned upon by others unless the person who is not going to college already has a reliable job, but for most people they do not have the opportunity to get a steady paying job without a college degree. If not enough people are getting the education they need for certain jobs that can become a problem in itself. Jobs may see a loss in the hiring process due to not enough people studying the certain field
