Dr. Loury speaks with no circumscription against his opponents. Therefore, he tries to influence the emotions of the reader by using an accusatory tone when referring to his critics ' ideas as "dangerous." Loury (2013) effectively uses the device of metaphor to help his readers understand his argument when he says, "One could use a color-blind instrument to pursue racial goals and color-conscious instruments to pursue goals that are not necessarily racially defined" (p. 347). Loury doesn 't believe that color-blind policies can guarantee racial equality. But, can 't they?

During that moment, I realized how much of an impact something like death could have on someone, and it made me realize that I had to mature faster than I had been. Just like I
It was an early December morning. The roads were slick with a thin layer of ice. The air was crisp with a winter chill and there was a slight drizzle falling from the sky. I was riding in my dad’s truck to my grandma’s, who babysat me while my parents were at work. My little brother Kaden was also with us.
I looked down at my uncles dead still body and I did not recognize him. He laid there in a coffin dressed in a deep black suit so uncanny to his normal casual attire of navy blue sweatpants and a maroon sweater. Where was his black thinly rimmed glasses that hung off of his large nose? Why was his dark brown hair neatly slicked back off his forehead when it always messily hung over his hazel eyes?

The roads became more broken down. Suddenly the beeping of the cars startled my thoughts and my world unfroze. I felt the droplets accumulating under my eyes. Tears began rolling down my face. It was at that moment that I realized how honored I was to have everything
I would have never imagined myself saying, “I work at funeral home.” Especially in high school. When I tell people, they always give me a weird look followed by them asking me what I do there and if I touch and look at bodies. Working at my uncle’s funeral homes throughout high school has made a huge impact on my life. I started at the funeral home the summer before my sophomore year, but it was just to vacuum and clean and I told my uncle that I didn’t want anything to do with bodies and the funerals.
My dad was picking my brother and I up from school. We noticed how sad he looked; he was on the edge of tears. When we asked what was wrong he broke down. He told us our grandfather, his father, passed away. I’ll always remember that moment.
Along the riverbank of Portia’s garden far away in Palm Springs, the reflection of the moonlight glistens in the water as I stroll along the sidewalk with my lover, Lorenzo. “On a night like this, Romeo met Juliet. Remember how she betrayed her father to spend time with her companion? ” said Lorenzo, “Sounds pretty familiar.”
