The funeral service has greatly changed over the past few decades. While some funeral homes may have thought these changes would come and go, most of them were here to stay. These changes have brought about new values, preferences, and opinions in funeral service. According to the NFDA, these changes included: personalization, advanced funeral planning, technology, green funerals, cremation, and the difference in funeral directors. Instead of the funeral service being traditional, meaning visitation following a service and burial, many people that come through the doors of the funeral home want to have an adaptive funeral service. This means that they want to make it unique and to match the person who died. Some of these unique ideas include what the person liked as a hobby, their passions, and their interests. Personalization makes the funeral more meaningful to the family and friends gathered for the funeral. Planning a funeral in advance allows people to plan a memorable funeral service that reflects their wishes. Having a website can allow funeral homes to easily display their products and services, which provides the consumer with the freedom to conduct research at any given time. A funeral homes website can also provide obituaries for the family to read online instead of buying a newspaper. The Facebook or web site page can provide a visitation time and a service time. With some visitations and memorial services taking place shortly after a person's death, it may be impossible for all family members and friends to attend the service. Some funeral homes have begun to assist distant loved ones by providing a live online broadcast of the funeral
