TORIE ECKLER WEEK 8: COURSE PROJECT REFLECTIVE POSTSCRIPT How did you go about selecting a topic for the research paper? After devoting eight weeks to this topic throughout the course, do you still find this topic interesting? If so, what further areas within this topic would you like to know more about? I chose this topic because I am interested in how to decrease obesity in our society. It is something that affects me and a lot of my patients. I struggle daily to eat the right foods and exercise. Just last year I lost 25 pounds but then gained it all back. I have found that even the smallest of changes can stop the weight loss. The topic does still interest me and I will continue to research what works and what doesn’t until I figure it out for me. Then maybe I can pass my plan along and it will be what works for someone else. Currently, I am working on the diet aspect of losing weight and what different ratios of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats assist in losing weight. The internet has opened a lot of doors and you must know which one to go through for the right information. I have learned to start with proven data and where to find it. EBSCO database is great and for Nursing the CINAHL database. I did a lot of unusable searching and wasting of my time before learning this. Thank you very much! I also have difficulty with reading other papers. I get side-tracked frequently. I have learned how to highlight parts that catch my attention and then I can come back and reread the highlights to figure out what I want to take for the paper I read.
