Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus was once a strong and powerful Roman Emperor. He was also known as Caligula which was his nickname given to him by his father's soldiers. The word Caligula was a meaning for “little soldier's boot”. He was given this nickname because he would keep his father's soldiers Company during their campaigns in Germania. Caligula had six siblings. Caligula was adopted son of Emperor Tiberius, and was also his nephew. He was a member of the house of rulers, also known as the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Caligula had many accomplishments and many difficulties through his life as being a Roman Emperor. Caligula was born on 31 August AD 12 in Italy. Caligula accepted the powers of by the senate, and then entered Rome 28 March. He became the Roman Emperor by taking Tiberius ring while he was on his deathbed and told everyone that Tiberius granted him as Emperor. He was described as the first Emperor that was admired by everyone. Caligula then became the 3rd Emperor of the Roman Empire. In the first couple months of being the Roman Emperor Caligula was well liked and loved. The within the first month he recalled all who were sentenced to death to have a second chance, people who were poor wouldn't pay taxes, gave bonuses to the military in order to gain power, destroyed Tiberius’s treason papers, which made people like him. People think someone tried poisoning him, by he soon became healthy again. Many people say that after his poisoning he became Evil. He started acting strange and would have those close to him killed because he saw serious threat. When he started becoming disliked he would become generous and would not make people pay taxes and give bonuses to the military. Which later cause a financial crisis in AD 39. Construction was a big part of Caligula's life. Even tho he was in a financial crisis he still had big projects. His projects did have some benefits to them such as that increased grain imports from Egypt. Caligula's first construction project which was known as the Circus of Gaius, which is now known as the Vatican Obelisk which was a large racetrack he had built. He had other big construction projects such as the Temple of Augustus and the Theatre of Pompey. He has some small one too such as new roads, new building in and so on.
