A subculture that I am apart of is the Gamer subculture. The Gamer subculture consists of anybody who plays video games; however, this is highly debatable because many people believe the level at which you play video games determines if you are a Gamer. Some people consider only those who play video games on consoles or PCs to be Gamers. I believe anybody who plays video games to any extent is a Gamer because no matter what you are playing video games on, you are practicing the the ritual of Gamers.
The Gamer subculture is a subculture because it is a group of people with corresponding ideas and beliefs about video games. It is a group that practices rituals, and has a set of social norms. It also has deviant behavior, and pretty harsh sanctions for deviant behavior. This subculture also has a very strong sense of group identity.

The core ritual of Gamers is simply playing a video game. This can be any video game, any difficulty level, multiplayer or singleplayer, old or new, expensive or cheap, and even exist on mobile devices. The more “hardcore” Gamers will practice this ritual by playing video games for many hours in one sitting, playing competitively(e.g ESports), and/or playing many different video games. A transition that exists within this ritual can be finding which genre of video game we prefer the most.
Another concept is the values of Gamers. As each gamer is different, so are the values; however, there are some values that exist within a very large portion of gamers. Probably the most important value is everybody should enjoy playing video games. If somebody or something is hindering anothers ability to enjoy a game, then something is wrong. Another important value is everybody has their own taste in video games. One person might really like a game everyone else thinks is weird, but most Gamers will not judge the person for
