Gandhi had a philosophy of nonviolent resistance to British rule in the 1800s that paved the way for India's independence. Gandhi Peacefully marched to protest the British Empire instead of violently fighting back because he knew it would only make India look worse. Gandhi's philosophy also allowed for themselves to be beaten mercilessly by British authorities in order to send a message to the world.
