Garrison Green Elementary Personal Statement

I chose to name my school Garrison Green Elementary because I live in the community of Garrison Green. This community is full of young families and little children everywhere. A lot of the qualities I choose for my school to have stem from what I see throughout this community. It is so lively and new and a community I feel safe in. I want my school to have a nurturing feeling where students are comfortable at school and feel confident in their learning. Another influence I had in creating my school came from my own experiences at my elementary, which was McKenzie lake school. Like McKenzie Lake school I wanted to create a school that also is kindergarten to grade four with approximately 500 students. I liked the idea of small class sizes and ideally the class size would be 20 to 25 students per classroom. I believe if we have fewer students in each class there is a greater opportunity for the teacher to develop deeper relationships with each and every student. This is a quality that is beneficial because if parents are involved in their children’s school life then they will also be supportive at home toward academics and be able to monitor progress. Garrison Green Elementary is dedicated to providing an inquiry-based learning and we believe it creates high order thinking skills in the students. With these skills students will be more likely to become life long learners. Also, with inquiry-based learning this will help enforce the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Garrison Green Elementary believes in inclusive education. The staff here has had training and attended workshops on how to teach exceptional students. It is important to have them included in the classroom as much as possible but to also have their accommodations/modification in place when
