Gary "The Great" Living the life of Gary Trent Jr. isn't an easy life to live. Growing up in Apple Valley, a town home to the Minnesota Timberwolves finest, Tyus Jones. Gary tries to make a name for himself, and succeeds by being ranked number five in the US for boy's basketball players. Going from the court, to college visits, and big decision making, it may seem nice watching all the success from the outside, but there's so much more to it. The reason why I wanted to interview Gary is because of all the exposure and attention Gary has gotten in his basketball career. As Gary says, "the most important element to being college ready is working hard, having determination, and knowing that you're capable of doing big things." I'm super proud of him and all his success, like to huge extreme. As I wrote this paper I began to realize, it's not just about winning trophies and medals to Gary, it's something way more. With all his success he could have chose to become big headed and cocky person, but he chose to choose the path of being thankful and blessed beyond all things. His love for the game is an all time high, but yet he still puts family, friends and school first. To me, it's crazy to think one of my role models, Gary Trent Jr. is the same age as me, but as I look at the big picture, he's already more successful than some adults, and he can only get more successful. He says," My favorite song Blessings by Big Sean, and featuring Drake and Kanye is a constant reminder of how blessed I really am." Sure, I want to be like Gary on the court, but most importantly, I want to be like Gary off the court too.
