Lets face it. You are stuck with the parents you have for the rest of your life, whether you like it or not. Now, if you consider your parent a good parent or not is a whole different story and a complicated one too. So many of the little choices parents make, add up to one big factor, if their kid sees them as a good parent or a bad one. This is important because parents play such a big factor in most children’s lives and influence the choices the kid makes and what morals they hold and how the grow up to be. In the short story “Gaston" we read about a little girl and a stranger meeting, but that stranger is,in fact, her father. The father not only gives the girl the gift of being observant and gives her what she needs, but he also introduces new ideas and topics and how to be an open minded individual. As most fathers would, he wants the best for his daughter and he makes a point of showing her that, but he also remains humble, a good trait in a parent. On the other hand he acts somewhat cold and distant as he is saying good-bye, but it can be easily fixed by getting to know each other more. Another issue is he does not reprimand the girl as he should have when she squashes the bug even when he told her not to, clearly disobeying his instructions. This too has a fix. The father probably has a minimal experience with kids,therefore, not knowing what to tolerate and what to not tolerate. The father is a good parent because he does not only care and want the best for his daughter, but he also passes on good traits and an open-mind which is essential in creating a successful adult and child which is what most parents want for their children in the
