Women are no longer obligated to follow the nurturing mother ideal; they can be independent and strong. Then, in the novel, East of Eden, some believe the author oversimplifies his female characters by filing them into either traditional, caring mothers or heinous villains. However, Steinbeck utilizes their simple, one-dimensional archetypes to show how complex his female roles truly are through subtle details.
Eve claims her sister Carol used her car without her permission, had an accident, and she want 's her to pay for the repair cost to fix her car. Carol says she needed to go to the store to get diapers or something, so she took her sister 's car without her permission. This is the result of universal themes in this story about humanity’s needs and desires that we still see occurring in our society today. The story of Genesis contains three archetypal characteristics that illustrate these patterns that still demonstrate humanity’s needs.
Patriarchy is a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it. This influenced the life of almost all ancient civilizations because it was apart of the main infrastructure. For example, in the Gupta Empire, many Indian families had patriarchal influence, headed by the oldest male member. All family members worked together to condition their crops. Since drought was colloquial, they had to work closer together.
Ayn Rand is a talented author whose use of literary elements makes her novels all the more interesting. A significant example of this is when Rand articulates the use of the story Adam and Eve throughout the chapter by conveying explicit meanings and making connections to help the reader better understand the situation that the characters are facing as they enter into a new phase of their lives with more knowledge than they had before. Adam and Eve is a tale from the bible depicting the events that occurred the first time humans were created and the first time they sinned. The story begins when the protagonists, Adam and Eve, make a mistake by taking a bite of the apple they were told not to as it would give them “the knowledge of good and evil,” (Fairchild).

In the genesis story, “The First Sin and its Punishment” Eve shows her power and independence through her decision to listen to the serpent, disobeying the Biblical God and risking “death”, a term that was unknown to her. To our knowledge she made this decision without consulting Adam, she simply took it and ate is, then “she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate (Genesis 3:6).” This shows that Eve had a great deal of influence over Adam. Adam knew what the Biblical God had warned against, and what the possible consequences were, but he had nothing to say to the serpent and did not resist when Eve handed him the forbidden fruit.
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini follows the lives of two women, Mariam and Laila, and the novel portrays the dichotomy of gender in the Afghanistan culture. Gender plays a large role in all of Afghanistan’s social institutions, and we can observe this even at the very start of the novel. For example, Mariam’s mother, Nana, is shunned and placed in a recluse area by Mariam’s father Jalil since Mariam is a harami, or in other words, a bastard. Nana was a maid for Jalil when they had an affair, and when he found out that she was pregnant, he sent her away to small house in a seemingly hidden and isolated village. Only on Thursdays is when Jalil visits Mariam, showing that she is not worth any more attention than that.
None of her machinations ultimately make Eve happy in “All about Eve”. Eve achieved contentment for a brief period through her scheme, however finally lost all happiness by the conclusion of the film.
The story of Adam and Eve serves as a tale on how mankind and womankind were created and placed on Earth. The story takes place in the Garden of Eden, and because the woman was deceived by the Serpent, both the women and the man were cast down to earth. The Serpent deceived the women by allowing her to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree, as she also influenced the man, God punished both. “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” (Genesis 3:16 NIV) and that He allowed “Adam (to) named his wife Eve” (Genesis 3:20 NIV).
As seen with the story of Adam and Eve, Eve is the one who waivers in her religion. Eve is the one who is easily manipulated. Eve is the one who does wrong. Eve is woman, Eve is to blame. Thus, three generations of a civilization knew little woman in their life and even fewer who could be compared to the strength of mind of men.

Different societies are defined by deferent norms and beliefs. One aspect that defines society are the roles given to men and women. The Egyptian society is one of the societies that have developed the culture of giving men and women different roles. Despite the changes in gender roles, there are key issues that remain unchanged in the Egyptian society. In the ancient Egyptian society, men and women had varied roles though the roles were equal.
Patriarchy is the typical system in a society where the male holds the most power over a female. Multiple civilizations have been this way for centuries. There are many aspects that caused this division between the two genders. The causes in the development of patriarchy from the Paleolithic Eras to the Neolithic Eras are the creation of civilizations, home environments ,and agriculture. Each one of these causes lead to one another because they have a “chain reaction.”
