Princess Sparkle Heart gets a Makeover by Josh Schneider, is a book that reflects both traditional and nontraditional norms because it’s about a girl, Amelia, and her doll that becomes damaged and then replaced with different body parts that don’t fit cultural expectations that normally portray a girl doll and Amelia still views her as beautiful. From looking at the book cover, you would expect this book to only reflect traditional norms. The title is pink, sparkly, and the font is flowy but at the same time it’s bold. Half of the words in the title are sparkly and the other half is made up of different patterns, and has screws and buttons sticking through them.

On Walmart’s website their toy section has many different filter options to pick from the first three being, category, trending, or by gender. Before I clicked on anything I scrolled to the bottom of the page where Walmart gives a little description of their toy sections, and to my surprise they included a statement that said “The most important aspect of a toy is that it appeals to your child, so let your child participate in picking out their next toy or game, whether it be a Lego Creator set or a Barbie doll”(Walmart 2016c). This gave me hope that they may be more diverse in their toy selections. I started with their gender section; which had two options boys or girls.
Summary The authors conducted a study in regards to the atypical gender development of children. Atypical is a term used to define those who have gender variance and don't yet know what to identify as. Ultimately, the goal of the study is to find if genetic or environmental contributions play a part in the process of defining your gender. To conduct this study, they used the families of opposite twin pairs, along the ages of 3 and 4 to observe the gender development of each.

The author advocates for the usage of gender structures that advocates for gender-neutral character, job evaluation and the concept of abstract worker into the structure of complex organizations. Acker argued, “Jobs and hierarchies are represented as gender neutral, and every time such a job evaluation system is used, the notion of gender-neutral structure and the behavior based on that notion are re-created within the organization” (p. 425).
