Recently, in class, we read a poem called Halloween in the Anthropocene by Craig Santos Perez. This poem talked about many issues, but one that stood out the most was gender inequality, specifically in the workplace. Both men and women are affected by this global issue; however, women tend to struggle more, as many men in specific communities see women as inferior. Gender inequality is a critical issue that persists in many societies worldwide. Despite significant progress in women's rights, women still face discrimination and bias in various aspects of life. The quote, "Women's earnings may be lower and men may have less employment flexibility and be expected to work longer hours," from an Employment New Zealand article, expresses to us some of the ways each gender is affected by this problem. The article also talks about how gender influences the earnings of both men and women, proving that not only women are impacted. Unfortunately, this is something that many men don't realize. They either don't understand or do not want to understand that solving this global issue will benefit them in the long run. In Michael Kimmel's TED Talk (Why gender equality is good for everyone – men included), he says, "Gender inequality is also in our interest as men.
