Proposal for my Research Paper on Gender Roles Are gender roles the same as they were last century or has society evolved into something different? Are the cultural norms of society beginning to shift? The purpose of me researching this topic is to first define gender roles, then to find out if they are changing and how. I believe that gender roles have been changing and still are changing this day. I will research how the roles of gender are beginning to switch along with examples. In this paper, I will talk about how gender roles are shifting between man and woman. I will use reliable sources and facts proving my claim, and supporting my argument. I plan to use different sources that are credible. What brought me to this topic was a discussion I once had in my Sociology specifically about gender. We quickly went through the topic, but I still found interest in the subject. When the time came to do research for Unit 3 paper, this topic was the only thing I wanted to research because I wanted to find out more about it. Why is it that when a child is born, it is instantly brought to the stereotypical roles of gender? Growing up, I would see male babies dressed up in masculine colors such as blue and the female babies would be dressed in feminine colors such as pink. Even at birth, society tends to put gender roles on new born babies. Why must a baby boy be instilled to wear colors such as blue? Why must a female baby be forced to wear feminine colors such as pink? That is beginning to change in the present era. The change of stereotypical parenting is also a change in gender roles. In order to argue this claim, I will find facts and examples of how this is occurring.
