The dominant culture constantly viewed anybody that was gay or who seemed gay as something that was unfavorable, often represented in negative ways in society’s mainstream media. Also, bias to the stereotypical views that went along side with them, representing a very large portion of LGBT as either overly flamboyant, or somebody with commitment issues that tend to sleep around, or even as a person hiding in the closet about their same sex feelings. The LGBT choice never seems to fit the normal character category or even family friendly. The mainstream media tend to portray the LGBT character as either overly dramatic, kind of crazy or in some kind of comical way. One show that I thought of that gave the LGBT community positive outlooks but now that I look back I can see that there are more negative views then good. The show Glee, which was about this high school singing choir had this character Kurt Hummel, who appeared to fit the typical gay student, his clothes were colorful and stood out, he had a feminine way of walking and …show more content…

Take into account that this movie was based in the seventies; around a time when being openly gay was frown upon. So anybody that is viewing this film can infer that being gay wasn’t a smart choice, that it was much better to hide your true feelings and live a false, unhappy heterosexual life. Accepting the ideal life that society has deemed morally correct and denied their selves of a happier life, though the guys would meet up once a year, telling their wives that they went on a yearly fishing trip together. To the LGBT people that may watch this film, they may feel as though they also have to hide their feelings about being homosexual and be tempted to live a normal straight life just because that was what society expects and
